In Art & Design Stormont pupils are taught in half classes of twelve. The art room is a large and flexible space to accommodate different learning needs. During the seven years that the pupils are with us they develop and refine skills in a range of media. The pupils learn techniques in drawing, printing, painting, collage, sculpture and textiles. Observational drawing is highly valued and the pupils learn about the elements in art such as shape, line, form, texture, space, proportion and tone alongside work that promotes imaginative and critical thinking. Projects have a range of themes and culturally diverse artists and designers are explored. The pupils go on visits as well as working with visiting artists.
Every year we hold a Celebration of the Arts event where pupil’s artwork is exhibited. We also regularly enter art competitions and last year one of our Year 5 pupils won first prize in the Yr5/6 category in the 2023 IAPS art competition which you can find on our art Instagram page -@storomont_schoolarts. We also had six pupils exhibiting work in the SATIPS Art Exhibition. During the Autumn Term 2023, Year 2 work will also be part of the National Gallery ‘Take One Picture’ event.
